Only 25 kilometres from Valencia City, Lliria is famous for its world class brass bands and is officially the capital of music for the Autonomous Community of Valencia. Valencia is to host the Americas Cup in 2007 and there is massive investment in the area’s infrastructure underway. In light of this, it’s likely house prices will rise – buying now would be a wise move, whether you plan to use the property yourself or buy to let.

This lively community of around 18,000 residents is ideal for those with families – there are excellent amenities: several schools, two music colleges, a hospital, shops, plenty of places to eat and drink, banks, supermarkets, a cinema, a sports and cultural centre, and a large public swimming pool. There is a Metro station and the underground will take you directly to Valencia if you want to leave the car at home. Lliria also has an archaeological museum and a sizeable public auditorium – and hosts the World Music Festival every August. The beautiful St Vicent Park is a couple of minutes’ walk from the town centre.

Set amongst mountains and farmland on the right bank of the River Turia, Lliria is a pretty place – whitewashed villas with lovely gardens are set back from winding cobbled streets. The heart of Lliria is its Town Square where the newly restored church and Town Hall can be found. Overlooking the town is a monastery which can be seen from miles around.

The gorgeous Costa Azahar beaches are only a 20 minute drive away and there are several excellent golf courses nearby, including El Bosque Golf Club and Oliva Nova Golf Club. This region of Spain is far less commercial than the tourist hotspots on some of the Spanish Costas – Spanish and Valencian are the languages you will hear spoken most frequently. As a rule, though, the local community is very welcoming to incomers – and more than willing to meet you halfway as you learn the language!
