Festive celebrations were extra special for Patsy and Robert Davies in December 2014 – it was the couple’s first Christmas in their new home in the Costa Blanca. The Davies moved into their townhouse in Playa Flamenca in November 2014, after selling their old home in Mazarrón, to the south in Murcia. Originally from Wolverhampton, the couple retired to Spain 12 years ago.
“In 2013 we decided we needed to downsize and as I have health problems we even considered returning to the UK,” said Patsy. “I’m pleased to say we decided to stay in Spain and look for a home in the Costa Blanca. We started by searching around Benidorm but then focused on the Torrevieja area, near to where my brother lives in Benijófar.”
Patsy and Robert upped their search in 2014, requesting the assistance of local estate agency HomeEspaña to help them find a new home.
“We knew we wanted three bedrooms and to be within walking distance of everything,” continued Patsy. “We also needed to be somewhere flat due to my medical condition, and ideally not far from a hospital. HomeEspaña were excellent – they found us lots of properties to see and were always flexible and patient with us over viewings. They found us our property in October and as the sale of our old house, a detached villa in the Camposol community, went through in November, the timing of it all worked out well for us.”
The Davies paid €115,000, excluding taxes and fees, for their new home, which is in the Las Chismosas community. It has three bedrooms – each with a terrace or balcony, two bathrooms, an underground garage and access to a communal pool. While it came furnished, the couple are buying new furniture to their own taste.
“We also plan to convert the back into a utility area and add a conservatory at the front,” explained Patsy. “A further bonus is Torrevieja’s hospital being just eight minutes away. It’s taking some getting used to being in a smaller property – our old place sat on a 608-metre plot and had a private pool. Thankfully, HomeEspaña’s after sales team have helped and been really great.”
Playa Flamenca has plenty to offer expats and second homeowners, including beaches, bars, restaurants and shops within easy walking distance, three golf courses within a 10-20 minute drive and easy access to Alicante and Murcia airports.
