Expat survey: A Big Thumbs Up for Spanish Schools, Healthcare and Transport

Spain offers much more than sunshine and cheap sangria to its UK expat population. Its education and health servies, and its public transport system, leave the UK in the shade, according to our new expat survey. See the results for yourself below.

So what is it that makes Spanish healthcare and education so popular?

According to Helen, a mother of 3 from La Zenia, it's the local-ness of services that are the key:
"There is a peadiatrician available all the time at our local doctors surgery and he is just brilliant with the kids. The appointment system where we are and the nurses are also very good. My only complaint is that It can be difficult to get emergency help without going to a hospital or a big medical centre."

On schools, Lucy, a mother of 2 from Granada has this to say: "It's very difficult to compare UK and Spanish schools because the systems are so different. However it does seem to be easier to find the kind of small, local school that I have always liked here. And school meals are fantastic!"

Julian, from Benalmadena was most enthusiastic about the public transport: "The trains are Extremely clean and you can set your watch by them. Busses between cities are also very reliable, and very cheap."
