San Javier

Costa Blanca and Costa Calida map
Key: Golf

Properties in San Javier are well placed to make the most of all this fascinating region of Spain has to offer. San Javier itself is a large town of around 27,000 residents – and, as you would expect in a town of this size, has all the amenities needed on a day-to-day basis: supermarkets, banks, shops, plenty of restaurants and bars, a train station, medical centres and a hospital. The town is pretty and typically Spanish, with a lovely Church, and narrow winding streets. Set on the Mar Menor coastline of the Costa Calida, San Javier is the perfect location for beach enthusiasts who will love the warm waters and safe beaches of the Mar Menor (a naturally formed salt-water lagoon separated from the Mediterranean by a narrow strip of sand).

San Javier is perhaps most well-known for its airport – San Javier International – which, while still much smaller than Alicante’s El Altet airport, has seen a huge increase in flights and passengers over recent years. Several budget airlines fly to San Javier from the UK on a daily basis – meaning it couldn’t be easier to get there.

Tourism has brought many benefits to the Costa Blanca, which has always been an area of outstanding beauty, with a diverse terrain of mountains, islands, Blue Flag beaches, nature reserves and typical Spanish villages. Cartagena and Murcia City are a 20-30 minute drive away and you will never be at a loss for things to do – water and land sports, museums and art galleries to visit, tackling mountain trails or lazing on the beach.

Benefits of owning property in San Javier

This stretch of the Costa Calida is possibly the most accessible destination in Southern Spain – it is served by both airports, and has excellent road and rail links, so makes an ideal base to explore the surrounding regions. The other advantage is that property prices in this area of Southern Spain are still relatively low – though the coastal area around the Mar Menor is becoming increasingly popular.
