Property in NoveldaOwning a property in Novelda places you in a thriving town with a population of 24,000 – famous as a producer of marble, wine and saffron. Novelda is in the heart of El Vinalopa Mitja, a richly fertile and green inland region of Alicante, dotted with citrus and almond groves and vineyards. The most striking landmark in Novelda is the modernist church – Santuario de Santa Maria – which is very reminiscent of Gaudi's Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona. The church is constructed of local marble and boulders – giving it a surreal, 'bubbly' appearance - and its tall towers add to its fairytale palace atmosphere. Next to the church are the ruins of La Mola castle, which date back to the Middle Ages. Novelda has four large supermarkets, plenty of bars and restaurants, and a busy market on Wednesdays. There is also a beautifully landscaped public park with botanical gardens, a Museum of Modernism, and some stunning Art Deco architecture. Only a short drive away is the town of Elda which has schools, a University, a modern hospital, a huge Carrefour supermarket, a cinema complex and the ubiquitous McDonalds. Alenda Golf Club is around 5 kilometres away. Novelda is easy to reach, being only 2 kilometres off the N330 motorway which takes you straight to Alicante and the airport, around 28 kilometres away. Novelda is ideal for those who enjoy the country, but don't want to be in the middle of nowhere. Inland property in Alicante is more reasonably priced than on the coast, yet the beautiful Blue Flag beaches of the Costa Blanca are within easy reach – the nearest, at Santa Pola, is a 30 minute drive.
