Property in Jalon, Costa Blanca North
The town of Jalon is set in the heart of the delightful Jalon Valley, one of Spain’s most green and attractive places to live. Sheltered by mountains, the valley enjoys a typical subtropical Mediterranean climate – with over 320 days of sunshine a year, but without the overwhelming heat and humidity experienced in other parts of Spain.
Jalon takes its name from the river that meanders through the town – which you can cross by paddling across the ford or take the more conventional (but less fun!) route over the bridge. It’ a pretty place, with whitewashed houses, and winding cobbled streets – famous for its blue domed church, and the fountain in the town square which is where the market is held on Tuesday mornings.
On Saturdays, there is a huge car boot and antiques sale on the river bank. With a good range of bars and restaurants, shops and banks, Jalon has everything you need for day to day living. Jalon is famed for its wines – gutsy reds and sweet Moscatels – there are several bodegas in Jalon where you can sample the local wines before buying. Wine is sold by the litre so bring your empties!
Calpe is an easy 20 minute drive – and there is no end of gorgeous beaches to discover along the coast. The nearest airport is Alicante – about 80 kilometres (around an hour by car) and Valencia airport is around 120 kilometres away (about an hour and twenty minutes by car).
The great advantage of buying inland property in Spain is the cost – we have some beautiful detached villas in Jalon, many with pools and sizeable plots of land, and you will be pleasantly surprised at how much further your money goes when you direct your search away from the well known coastal property hot spots. It’s the best of all worlds: gorgeous countryside, in a peaceful setting, yet only a short drive to the stunning beaches of the Costa Blanca.
